SAN PIETRO AL TANAGRO

Pietro di Diano until 1863, then St. Peter toTanagro. Autonomous University until its elevation to the municipality. From Salerno km.85.

Not a lot of news about the village that belonged in 1496 toSanseverino of Salerno, who were called to his tax authorities for felony, but then returned. Ms. Costa cited by Giliberti shows thatin 1569 the Baron of S. Pietro di Diano, Duke of Siano, resorted toR. Chamber saying that Baron S. Arsenio, John M. deOgeda, had no right to exercise the jurisdictions ofBagliva and portolania of S. Pietro di Diano.

The appeal was repushed, perhaps for lack of documentation, if the Duke of Diano took up the dispute by claiming that S. Arsenio was not forty feud, but only the domain of the church, so he had to be private ofrights and Bagliva and portolania. Therefore it could not be expected that he continued to exercise those rights on the population of St. Peter Diano.

The Baron de Ogeda opposes saying that already previous landownershad exercised those jurisdictions, so its right wasrecognized. But, as reported by Pandolfo, a judgment of the SRCof 1596 ruled that «the right of bagÌiva and portolania in feud ofSt. Peter to the Tanagro belonged to the Baron. »Giliberti writes that the in the «Replenish » of Diano, were also delimited some boundaries between St. Peter and St. Arsenio.Another dispute arose between farmers of S. Arsenio and the Duke of Siano, who used the SRC assuming that those had begun to cultivate public lands pasture.

The appeal was received so the inhabitants of S. Arsenio saw frustrated their efforts. By other documents we learn about the arrest of Baron G. Maria Calà,while he was hunting in the area Mezzanella, by men of the Duke of Siano, who translated him to Torre. Duke extorted to Baron a statement with which agreed that the districtSecchio was attributable to S. Pietro di Diano. Giustiniani writes that in 1625 John Villano owned the feud designated «St. Petri prope Brianum».We then received another news on the dispute (1771) with Sant'Arsenio about grazing lands Lamato and Pezze.

S. Arsenio did not defend itself before the delegate of the SRC that was condamned. From the Book of Parliaments {1756-1775) we learn of some girls of S. Arsenio denuded by young of St. Peter, for which there was an appeal by the mayor and elected officials of the university to the king.

On 7 September 1806 some residents of St. Peter and Torre, believing that one of the companies of the French troops of GeneralMassena (in Calabria was reinforcing those of the General Renier) approached to the country to attack him, fired several shots rifle. The captain commander was killed during the attack. At dawn the French attacked Torre and St. Peter, but they were met with gunfire.

The French sacked and fired the town.Giustiniani places it to 44 miles from Salerno with 2,700 farmers producingwheat, wine, olive oil and legumes. Assign the feud to the family Capecethe Dukes of Siano. He writes that he could find only datacensuses of 1595 (132 fires: people 660), 1648 (140: 700) and 1669 (95: 475).
